Just about 70 miles outside New York City is a Connecticut town called Danbury. This is where one of the over 125 Cruise America RV rental center locations is found, which makes Danbury RV rentals easy to come by. This town is a great starting place for all kinds of daytrips and excursions. In older times, most people would start their journey out of Danbury from the main train station, which has now been converted to the Danbury Railway Museum. This is just one attraction of the city's pretty historic center. Other attractions include the Tarrywile Park and Mansion, the Military Museum of Southern New England, the Richter Park Golf Course and the Danbury Museum and Historical Society.

If you choose to venture out of the city, a great daytrip would be to the Bear Mountain Reservation. This is a quiet, dog-friendly forest parkland that overlooks the waters of Candlewood Lake. It is located just 15 minutes north of the town, and an easy drive in your Cruise America rental RV. Just follow Rt. 37 North past all of the shopping centers, and eventually past the prison for non-violent women. On the right, just past the prison is where you will find Bear Mountain Road. It will lead you a half-mile to the large parking lot. It is the home of the 888-foot high Bear Mountain Peak, which offers beautiful scenery and great hiking trails. It is also the home of Danbury Bay, which lies on Connecticut's largest lake, the 5,420-acre Candlewood Lake. There are great RV parks and accommodations in the area should you choose to spend a night or two in the area.

Another fun excursion for the entire family would be a visit to the Beardsley Zoo located in Stratford, Connecticut, just 45 minutes from Danbury on I-84 East. You can spend a couple of hours or the entire day in Connecticut's only zoo, where you can visit more than 300 different animals that call the zoo home. There are rare or threatened species to see, such as the Amur Siberian Tiger, the Andean Condor, the Ocelot, the Red wolf, the Maned Wolf and the Golden Lion Tamarin. There is a South American rainforest exhibit with a free-flight aviary that is sure to please any visitor. There is a prairie dog exhibit with areas to watch them pop up out of their burrows. There is even a Peacock Café where you can feed the gang before heading out.

Another fun trip from Danbury would be an adventure into Black Rock State Park, just 28 miles away. This 439-acre park is tucked away in the scenic rolling hills of the Western Highlands. It is made up of steep, wooded ledges covered with a green variety of pine, hemlock and oak trees that provide the shaded setting for Black Rock Pond. The name Black Rock is derived from the heavy graphite content embedded in the landscape of the area. Here you will enjoy hiking, fishing, swimming, picnicking and camping. You can park your Cruise America RV in one of the 78 campsites in the camping area. To arrive, just take I-84 East out of Danbury to exit 20 and merge onto CT-8N towards Torrington, then take exit 38, turn left on Waterbury Road and follow the signs to the park.

No matter where your journey leads you, it is bound to be a fun, relaxing time when you take it in a Cruise America rental RV.
