Packed with a rich natural and cultural history, San Antonio is located in South-Central Texas, near tons of sites and attractions that make renting an RV in San Antonio both convenient and worth any weekend adventure. In addition to several world-renown Spanish colonial missions and heritage sites, the “Alamo City” also boasts natural caverns for the casual geologist and charming nearby towns for wine enthusiasts to explore.

You’ll find tons to do in and around San Antonio while staying at any one of the nearby RV parks with your Cruise America RV. Here’s a taste of all that San Antonio has to offer!

Adventure ideas during your RV rental in San Antonio

Whether you prefer to make San Antonio your base for day trips or would rather camp directly outside a national park, you’ll find no shortage of things to do.

RV camping in Big Bend National Park

At less than a six hour drive from San Antonio, Big Bend National Park is the perfect weekend trip or extended getaway for avid hikers and nature lovers. There are tons of RV parks near Big Bend to choose from with amenities such as horse corrals and stunning views. This national park is open 365 days a year with pleasant weather year-round, so you can enjoy its natural splendors and outdoor activities whenever it works for you.

Wine tasting and German bites in Fredericksburg

This charming little town is one hour north of San Antonio and looks like it came straight out of the German countryside. With vineyards, German restaurants, bakeries, and beer gardens, Fredericksburg is a foodie and history junkie paradise. If you time your visit right, you might also be able to catch Fredericksburg's annual Oktoberfest.

RV camping along the Texas coastline

Texas’ coastline is only a few hours from San Antonio and the perfect place to experience beachside relaxation from the comfort of your Cruise America RV. There are many sites to explore along the coast, but some fan favorites include South Padre Island, Matagorda Island State Park, and Galveston. Take along paddle boards and the kids’ favorite beach toys without having to worry about how far the walk is from the hotel to the water.

Hike to waterfalls at Gorman Falls

Located in Colorado Bend State Park less than three miles north of San Antonio, Gorman Falls is a 70-foot spring-fed waterfall. The hiking trail leading to Gorman Falls is considered an easy difficulty and is dog-friendly, so your four-legged friend can join you on your trip with Cruise America.

RV camping at Guadalupe Mountains National Park

For those looking to explore Western Texas on the way to El Paso or further, Guadalupe Mountain National Park makes a refreshing stop-over or destination for RV rentals from San Antonio. The highest peaks in Texas are found here, as well as diverse wildlife and ample hiking trails. While there are a few RV parks conveniently near trailheads, capacity and amenities may not be as plentiful as campgrounds a bit further out. However, no matter where you stay, a trip to Guadalupe Mountains National Park is well worth it!

Canyon Lake

At one hour from San Antonio, Canyon Lake is great for RV camping newbies or those looking for a closeby escape. There are many kids’ friendly activities to explore here on top of the 40 miles of hiking trails and guided tours. This 12,000 acre nature preserve protects the area’s drinking water, so there are many educational programs for visitors as well.

Exploring caverns at Longhorn Cavern State Park

Nearby both Austin and San Antonio is the breathtaking Longhorn Cavern State Park. These caverns were formed by an ancient river, resulting in a stunning underground marvel that visitors can view with guided tours. Although the Longhorn Caverns are best suited for a day trip, they make a fun stop along the way of your RV road trip!
