Florida is a beautiful state, practically surrounded by oceans, and dotted with hundreds of lakes. Aside from the natural beauty of the area, there are several manmade attractions for the entire family. And best of all, there are plenty of Cruise America RV rental centers here, including our Hudson RV rental center.
Located right on the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico (at the westernmost end of Pasco County), Hudson, Florida is right in the heart of all the action. In fact, it’s a great place to start on an RV journey throughout the Sunshine State.
While in Hudson, you can catch a show at The Show Palace, hit the fitness trail or take a swim at Veterans Memorial Park, or enjoy a day at SunWest Park; a recreational waterfront experience for the entire family that includes an Aqua Park, kayaking, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, volleyball and lots of other activities for the entire family. Or, if you’d like to just lax out, there is a spring fed freshwater lake and a white sandy beach to stretch out on.
If you happen to be in Hudson at the end of September or through October, you can make your spine tingle by visiting the Haunted Angelus “Scream” Park. Here, you can take a weekend and join in on the Dead Butler’s Haunted Hayride, make your way through the Night Terrors Haunted House, visit the Crawling Dead or get booked into the Andersonville Prison. As terrifying as it all sounds, it’s all kid-friendly, and the attraction is very reasonably priced. Most of all, the proceeds all go towards a very worthy cause; to support the Angelus, a group home for the severely disabled.
If you want to hit the road in your Cruise America rental RV, the possibilities of great daytrips are endless, and you don’t even need to leave Pasco County! Here are a few examples:
Located in Dade City, Wild Things is unlike any zoo you’ve been to. This 22-acre menagerie of animals provides a natural botanical garden landscape environment for all the creatures within. You’ll get up-close and personal with lions, tigers and bears … oh, my! There are playful monkeys, swimming otters, a myriad of birds … and much more. You can visit the gift shop for animal-themed home décor, jewelry, tiffany lamps, works of art, and much more. There’s even a street trolley that delivers you to the entrance of the zoo from the exterior shops. You can take a walking trek, or the Safari Tram Ride to see over 200 animals in an environment fit for a Lion King! You and the family can even enjoy a “hands-on” encounter with a lion cub, a tiger cub, a skunk, a gator and even a monkey! The zoo is open every day (except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) from 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Dade City is an easy 50-minute trip from Hudson, via FL-52 E.
While you’re in Dade City, and should you be feeling the urge to get physical, you may want to visit the TreeHoppers Aerial Adventure Park. It’s the largest zip line park of its kind in Central Florida. You can choose from eight different color-coded trails, ranging from “beginners” to “advanced” and everything in-between. You can either climb the same course over and over, or try a new one each time. If you and your traveling party fall between the ages of 5 to 99, you’re good-to-go! The park is open year-round, but the hours vary, so check with them as you plan your trip.
How about a visit to the breathtaking Crystal Springs Preserve? It’s a 530-acre sanctuary devoted to environmental education and preservation of Florida’s natural environment. There are all kinds of wilderness experiences that you and your family can enjoy, including a magnitude 2 spring system, which discharges 30 million gallons of water per day! There are incredible wildlife viewing opportunities, along with miles of wooded trails, river boardwalks, a unique nature center, wilderness pavilion and extensive butterfly gardens. The preserve is located in Wesley Chapel, located in the Tampa Bay Area metro. From Hudson, it’s a short 47-minute drive via FL-589 Toll S and Fl-54 E.
All throughout the Sunshine State you’ll find plenty of high-quality RV parks to stay in. And no matter where your travels may take you, you’re bound to have a blast!
