Chicago

Located just 30 miles west of Chicago is a suburban town called Naperville. This quaint community was voted the second-best place to live in America by Money Magazine in 2006 (first-best was Ft. Collins, CO), and it has only gotten better since then! If you’re looking for Chicago RV rentals, then Naperville is a great place to get one, because we have a Cruise America rental center right here, and you won't have to venture into the big city to pick it up..

If you are in the mood to get away and hit the road on a few daytrips from the Chicago area, here are some suggestions:

There are two very picturesque cities included in the Windy City "burbs." One is called Geneva and the other, St. Charles. Both of these cities are nestled on the banks of the Fox River.

Geneva is also referred to as the "Gem of the Fox River Valley" because of its many attractions. You can start by stepping out of your rental RV and walking into Geneva's Herrington Inn and Spa. Here you can get a couple's massage, followed up by an intimate dinner at the Atwater's Restaurant located on the water's edge. You can also visit 3rd Street with all of its charming boutiques and shops. You can even pop in to the Latest Crave Cupcake Shop for a treat.

Just a few miles to the north of Geneva and located just one half hour west of Naperville sits St. Charles. This town has it's own style of charm, and there is an abundance of RV parks in which you can station your Cruise America rental RV. There are numerous parks and trails for biking, hiking and picnicking. In the winter, it is a great place for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There are a host of antique and boutique shops, as well as public art and architecture displays.

If you take I-55 South to Collinsville, you can experience an historical adventure like none other. The ancient city of Cahokia is where you will find approximately 80 historic mounds, including the largest manmade earthen mound in North America; Monk's Mound. These mounds comprised the city of Cahokia, which was occupied from about 700 A.D. to 1,400 A.D., and occupied as many as 20,000 residents. Mound #72 was a ridgetop burial mound. It is where the body of the famous “Birdman” was discovered, along with 250 other skeletons; most of them victims of sacrificial rituals. Nobody knows why the town was eventually abandoned, but you can go explore this 2,200-acre tract and draw your own conclusions. The park is open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, check before you to, as times can change periodically.

Just a two and a half-hour drive from the Chicago area is where you will find Saugatuck. This quaint resort town is actually found in Missouri on the shores of the Kalamazoo Lake. This town has been nicknamed "Carmel-by-the-Sea. There are dozens of art galleries there, as is the well-known Summer Chamber Music Festival.
