What Are Four Music Festivals In The Midwest You Need To Attend In 2023?

With so many music festivals happening in the midwest in 2023, it is understandably difficult to choose which ones to attend. We have listed four must-visit midwest music festivals worth the effort below.

  1. Lollapalooza

Location: Grant Park - Chicago, Illinois

Dates: August 1st to August 4th

Ticket Prices: 1-day general admission tickets are $150, and 4-day tickets start at $410.

Unsurprisingly, one of the biggest summer music festivals happening in 2023 is Lollapalooza. This festival has been around since 1991 and began as a farewell tour for the band Jane's Addiction. This event attracts more than 200,000 festival-goers who enjoy rock, techno, hip-hop, and alternative music every year. Numerous famous musicians perform at this music festival, with this year including Hozier, Tyler the Creator, SZA, The Killers, Blink 182 and more!

There are also DJ tents and side stages for up-and-coming performers that you can enjoy on the day.

In addition, it's also family-friendly, with a “Kidzapalooza” area dedicated to entertaining young fans with numerous activities like interactive art exhibits and music workshops.

  1. Summerfest

Location: Downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Dates: June 22nd to July 6th

Ticket Prices: Tickets start at $25 for adults and $6 for children (up to age 10).

One of the biggest and greatest music festivals in the world is Summerfest, and it has been held every year in the midwest since 1968! Summerfest brings 9 days of musical entertainment, memories, and fun. Unlike other festivals, this one is split over three weekends, making it ideal for most people who lead busy lives with crammed schedules.

This festival is held on Lake Michigan, so there are gorgeous beaches and natural sights to take in when you’re not enjoying the numerous headliners. In 2024, some of the most looked-forward-to performers at Summerfest include Kane Brown, Mötley Crüe, Keith Urban, AJR, Carley Rae Jepsen, and NEEDTOBREATHE.

Additionally, one of the key selling points of this festival is that purchasing one ticket will get you access to all 10 stages, which is not the norm of the festival scene. Moreover, besides fantastic music, there are also numerous shopping marketplaces and famed restaurants to explore, offering a taste of Midwest cuisine you won’t soon forget.

  1. Hinterland Festival

Location: Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater, Saint Charles, Iowa.

Dates: To be announced

Ticket Prices: In previous years, general admission was $250, VIP was $550, and SAINTS Passes were $1,500. This year’s prices have yet to be announced. Many consider the Hinterland music festival a hidden gem in the Midwest because of its wide array of alt-country, indie pop, soul, and Americana music performances. This festival often brings audiences entertaining headliners like cult heroes and household names, so it's unsurprising that 2024 is no different.

In the past, performers included Bon Iver, Angel Olsen, Maggie Rogers, Zach Bryan, and Orville Peck. This year’s lineup is sure to be spectacular. Besides hosting quality musicians and entertainers, Hinterland has one of the best festival atmospheres, with singles, couples, and families welcome.

Additionally, unlike many other festivals, you can pitch a tent or park your trusty motorhome in the peaceful pastoral campground overlooking a lake, so you have a place to stay conveniently near the entertainment.

  1. Winstock Country Music Festival

Location: Winsted, Minnesota

Dates: June 14th and 15th

Ticket Prices: General Admission tickets cost $150

If you are a country music fan, you will definitely want to visit the Winstock Country Music Festival. In 2023, you can look forward to performances by Cole Swindell, Jason Aldean, and Jon Pardi, just to name a few.
This outdoor festival is one of the best for country music lovers in the Midwest. Yet, unlike other summer festivals, it is organized entirely by volunteers, with more than 1,000 people volunteering more than 5,000 hours annually.

What's more, all the proceeds from the festival go to help fund private education for the children of Winstead and surrounding areas. So not only will you be enjoying quality country music, delicious food, and fun, but you’ll also be helping a noble cause when you buy tickets to this festival.
