Atlanta
The International Hartsfield – Jackson Airport in Atlanta is the world's leader in moving passengers. Obviously, this is a hot city (not just temperature hot), steeped in deep Southern roots. There is no better way to explore this town than in the comfort of one of our Atlanta South RV Rentals. Our rental location is conveniently located in Palmetto, Georgia, just a half-hour south of Atlanta. Palmetto is a small, quiet town, unlike its giant neighbor, Atlanta…just 29 miles to the north.
While visiting Atlanta, you will find weeks worth of things to do, so it would take more than one visit to experience it all. You could explore the Atlanta Aquarium, where you will find 100,000 marine animals residing in six themed underwater galleries. The aquarium is open 365 days a year, but the hours vary, so check online before you go to make sure your arrival time works.
Continuing with the animal theme, you can see the most extensive collection of orangutans and gorillas in the nation at the Zoo Atlanta. Take the kids to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center, or take a tour of the CNN Studios. You can dine at the Hard Rock CafĂ© if you choose not to cook in the comfort of your motorhome. And speaking of motorhomes, there are plenty of great RV parks in the area. The zoo is open 363 days a year (Thanksgiving and Christmas excluded). They are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, and on weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
If you choose to make a departure from the city and get away on some interesting daytrips, there are plenty to choose from. Here are some ideas:
A two-hour trip from Atlanta could land you in Stone Mountain Park. This is Georgia's most visited attraction. Close to 4,000,000 fun seekers visit this fun park each year to enjoy the 3,200 acres of camping, golfing and hiking and attractions. The park is a mix of fun and entertainment for the whole family, including the world's largest laser show. There's even a petting zoo and a play area for the kids, complete with concession stands. There are live shows and shops in the village, and you can ride a tram right to the top of the mountain … or take a riverboat cruise. There's truly something for everyone. There is an admission cost, but it's well worth the entertainment value. Oh, and there is a beautiful campground onsite that has 200 RV sites! The park opens at 5:00 a.m. and the gates close at midnight. It is open year-round, closing only for Christmas. From Atlanta, take I-85 North to I-285 East. Once on I-285 East, take Exit 39B, the U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel 7.7 miles and take exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. Follow the exit ramp to the East Gate entrance of Stone Mountain Park.
In less than 3.5 hours from Atlanta, you can pilot your Cruise America rental RV to North Carolina's famed Black Rock Mountain State Park. It's the highest state park in Georgia, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's found in the northeast corner of the state, close to Mountain City. There are breathtaking views from several outlooks in the park. If the day is clear, you can enjoy great views of North and South Carolina, as well as the highest peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. That's a lot to take in! While in the park, you can fish or paddleboat on the beautiful 17-acre lake. There is plenty of nearby RV camping available, so you can plan on staying the night if you please. You should know that the park is open seasonally. It is closed from December 1st – March 15th.To get there from Atlanta, just take I-85 N through the Carolinas. It's a 221-mile trip, so you will enjoy a lot of sight seeing along the way.
Regardless of your destination in Georgia, or any of the nearby states, it can't get any better than experiencing it in one of Cruise America's class C RVs.
